The world governing body of football announced on Wednesday that it has fired its secretary general, Jerome Valcke. The Frenchman had been suspended from all activities relating to the sport in October when the FIFA ethic committee began its investigation amid allegations of corruption involving World Cup ticket sales.

FIFA's made the announcement in a statement that confirmed Valcke has been relieved of his duties. The Frenchman who served as FIFA President Sepp Blatter's top aide, has now been fired by the organization for a second time following his dismissal in 2006. Last week, FIFA ethics judges formally opened a case against Valcke, who was charged with several violations of the FIFA code of ethics while serving as Blatter's right-hand man since 2007 including accepting gifts and conflicts of interest. FIFA says Markus Kattner will continue to serve as acting secretary general.
