Chinese President Xi Jinping inspected the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) at the Shek Kong barracks on Friday.
Over 3,100 troops in 20 formations were lined up for the inspection. More than 4,000 people from all walks of life in Hong Kong also attended the event on the eve of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China.
Xi, also Chairman of the Central Military Commission, arrived in HKSAR on Thursday to attend the celebrations marking the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China and the swearing-in ceremony of Carrie Lam as Chief Executive and the Special Administrative Region's new government.
The PLA Hong Kong garrison is responsible for the defense of Hong Kong since its return to the motherland in 1997.
