Premier Li Keqiang says the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has an important and strategic position in China's overall development. He added that efforts should be made to continue consolidating the foundation for long-term stability by promoting regional development.

Li was speaking during his meeting with NPC deputies from Xinjiang. The premier stressed developing industries including agriculture, textiles, and tourism, while lifting the proportion of the non-resource sector in the region, making it a "window" for opening up.
Li also said improving people's livelihoods is the central task for the local government, adding it's important to accommodate people's needs in education and employment. Li said the government will further uphold national unity, and promote joint development and prosperity among all ethnicities in China.
