BEIJING, March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's remarks on Taiwan policy have drawn great interest across the Taiwan Strait.

Xi vowed to resolutely contain "Taiwan independence" secessionist activities in any form, safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity and never allow the historical tragedy of national secession to happen again.

He made the vow when joining discussion of a group of lawmakers from Shanghai on the first day of the national legislature's annual session on Saturday.

Xi said the Chinese mainland will further promote cross-Strait cooperation and exchanges in all fields, deepen economic and social integration, and enhance the sense of a community of common destiny.

Cai Jianguo, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a member of the Standing Committee of the 14th Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, noted that President Xi's words on cross-Strait relations embody a spirit of common responsibility and common share.

It will help deepen economic and social integration in all fields, and further bridge the distance of the compatriots on both sides across the Strait, Cai added.

Ji Bin, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and vice president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, stated that he hopes his fellow-townsmen could fully understand President Xi Jinping's speech, and feel the strong determination and sufficient goodwill from the mainland.

President Xi's speech put emphasis on "integration" across the Taiwan Strait, and people can feel the patience, confidence and goodwill in dealing with the cross-Strait ties, said Gao Meiqin, a member of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference from Taiwan.

Zhang Liqi, PhD candidate at School of International Studies in Peking University, said that the community of common destiny has won wide recognition. Compatriots on both sides across the Taiwan Strait all are of Chinese origin. As the old saying goes, blood is thicker than water. The more people know each other, the closer they are.

Wang Yifu, National People's Congress deputy from Taiwan, said history can prove that the fate of people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait has been intertwined tightly.

We had experienced ups and downs, but we have a common wish that our motherland will become more prosperous and the cross-Strait relations will develop peacefully. To achieve the Chinese Dream, which is to rejuvenate our Chinese nation, calls for concerted efforts from both sides across the Taiwan Strait. No one is allowed to be absent, added Wang.

And the cross-Strait exchanges have grown irreversibly. No matter how Taiwan's political situation changes, we are determined to do things helpful to promote social integration and enhance well-being of the people from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Wang emphasized.
