Peace talks in Geneva aimed at ending the five-year war in Syria has entered a second week, but with no breakthrough. The head of Syria's government delegation has however, described the talks as positive. Bashar Ja'afari also said his team has received no response to a proposal outlining "fundamental principles" for negotiations, submitted to the United Nations mediator last week.
In this, the government has underscored the importance fighting terrorism in Syria before anything else. UN Special Envoy Staffan de Mistura said on Monday that the sensitive issue of political transition was raised with the government delegation, with progress yet to be made. The envoy also commented on the government's written proposal.
