Bao Bao makes debut in Washington
A public debut of a panda cub has attracted large crowds to the Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington.
Bao Bao seemed unfazed by all the attention. The zoo has been holding practice sessions ahead of the panda cub’s public unveiling, so that she can get used to crowds. The female panda cub was born last August and now weighs over 9 kilogrammes. Bao Bao is the third child of China’s giant panda Mei Xiang and Tian Tian. She still receives all her nutrition from her mother Mei Xiang, but the cub is beginning to bite on bamboo. The zoo has extended its hours this weekend for the public to see the 5-month-old cub. From Saturday to Monday, the giant panda house will be open from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
