习近平祝贺洪秀柱当选国民党主席
Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, has congratulated Hung Hsiu-chu for being elected the chairperson of Kuomintang.
Hung was elected the seventh chair of the Kuomintang on Saturday, becoming the first woman to lead the party. Her predecessor Eric Chu resigned to take responsibility for the Kuomingtang Party's defeat in the island's leadership election in January.
Xi Jinping said in his message to Hung that he hopes the two parties will keep the overall national interest in mind, continue to adhere to the 1992 Consensus, and oppose "Taiwan independence."
