Qatar Petroleum's chief executive, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi, said the company will boost gas production from its giant North Field through a new project.
Al-Kaabi said Qatar aims to reach the target in five to seven years, which would strengthen the country's leading position in the field of liquefied natural gas.
He stressed that Doha hopes to increase LNG production through cooperation with other international companies.
Qatar shares ownership of the world's largest natural gas field, South Pars, with Iran. The area contains 19 percent of the recoverable natural gas resources, of which Qatar owns 14 percent and Iran 5 percent.
