Four singers win competition to perform at CCTV gala
Six contestants competed in the final of "Express to the Spring Festival" on Saturday night to decide who will appear on the stage of CCTV's Spring Festival Gala. Four gruelling rounds of competition saw the winners of talent shows including "The Voice of China", "Super Boy" and "Blossoming Flowers" battle it out.
A fierce competition for each of them, but a feast for their fans, as an eclectic mix of musical styles was played out on stage. The contestants had to choose some difficult pieces to fully demonstrate their skills.
"It's a real challenge. In two hours, you have to enter into different moods to sing different songs," said singer Li Qi.
"We're here to judge for a billion of the gala's audience members out there, to choose the best from the six. They have to sing well and I have to be touched by their songs. In addition, I have to be pleased by their appearance and personality. That's my criteria," said judge Wang Jie.
In the end, four singers - Hua Chenyu, Li Qi, Wang Xiaomin and Xiao Yihang - won a place to perform at the gala. Director Feng Xiaogang sent them an invitation to attend rehearsals during the days leading up to the big night. Perhaps the real challenge comes next vying for applause from the gala audience.
