2016欧洲杯英语报道:Three Lions advance in second place in Group B
The other match in Group B would see England taking on Slovakia. After a disappointing draw with Russia in their opening match, England could not afford to lose to the dangerous Slovakians who were in need of a positive result themsleves to stand any chance of advancing.
England 0 - Slovakia 0
England manager Roy Hodgson would make six changes to the lineup and Jamie Vardy posed a constant threat in the first half while Nathaniel Clyne regularly troubled the Slovak defence with probing runs down the right wing.
There were some anxious moments when a mix-up between goalkeeper Joe Hart and Chris Smalling nearly let in Robert Mak, but otherwise the Three Lions kept Slovakia under pressure.
But despite the roar of their fans, who vastly outnumbered Slovakia's in the St. Etienne stadium, England could not find a way through the Slovak defence as the match ended a goalless draw.
England finish in second place behind Wales with 5 points and will play their last 16 tie in Nice on June 27th. If England had finished top, they would have played a third-placed team in Paris two days earlier in a more favourable location. Slovakia have four points and a good chance to move on, but must wait to see if they are one of the four best thrid placed teams.
