China has won three gold medals so far in the Rio Olympics.
China’s first gold was won by Zhang Mengxue, who claimed the women’s 10 meter air pistol title. The 25-year-old finished with 199.4 points after 20 shots. Zhang established her lead midway through the event and pulled away with a 10.9 perfect shot in the final rounds.

China also secured the first diving gold when Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao won the women’s synchronized 3-meter springboard. The pair got an overall score of 345.6 points from five dives, some 31 points ahead of the runner-ups. The performance also made veteran Wu the most decorated female diver with seven medals.
Weightlifter Long Qingquan took gold in the men’s 56-kilogram category with a combined total of 307 kilograms. He broke the 16-year-old record of 305 kilograms. Long lifted 170 kg with his last attempt in the clean and jerk, and earlier raised 137 kg above his head in the snatch.
