SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Two civilians, a policeman and a militant were killed in an attack in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said on Sunday.

According to police, militants on Saturday evening attacked a police party at Mir Bazar in Kulgam district, about 55 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Last night four people were killed and three others wounded after militants attacked a police party who were clearing traffic on the road following a road accident," a police official said. "The slain were identified as a policeman, a suspected militant and two civilians."

Three people, including a policeman wounded in the incident, were referred to Srinagar for treatment.

According to police, the identity of the slain men was being ascertained.

On Thursday evening, a civilian driver was killed and two troopers wounded after militants attacked an army patrol in adjacent Shopian district.

The troopers were travelling in a civilian taxi when militants attacked it.

Reports said the troopers were wearing bullet-proof jackets and helmets, while as the civilian driver was without any protective gear.

A separatist movement and guerrilla war challenging New Delhi's rule is going on in Indian-controlled Kashmir since 1989.
