On the same day, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov met with his US counterpart Thomas Shannon in Washington DC. The meeting comes as President Trump marks almost six months in office, with new polls showing more and more Americans are unhappy with the job he's doing.
After two Russian compounds were seized by the Obama administration last December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov responded on Monday that taking away property which belongs to Russia is like daylight robbery. The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Russia reserves "the right to take retaliatory measures based on the principle of reciprocity" if the White House does not return the diplomatic facilities.
