Local authorities say more than 58,000 people have been affected by the 7.3-magnitude earthquake which struck Yutian County on Wednesday afternoon. But so far there are no reports of any casualties.
Around 20,000 people have been relocated, with more than 3,000 houses said to have collapsed completely, and around 15,000 damaged. Relief materials, such as tents, quilts and power generators, are being delivered to the quake-hit areas. And post-disaster hygiene and sanitation operations are being carried out.
Work teams from the National Commission for Disaster Reduction and the Civil Affairs Ministry have inspected the damage in the county, and are assisting the local government with earthquake resistance and disaster mitigation work.
