Beijing will be the first city in China to upgrade its emergency medical service with the use of professional medical helicopters, said an official from the Beijing Red Cross Emergency Rescue Center.
北京市红十字会急诊抢救中心的一名官员称，北京将成为中国首个起用专用医疗直升机以升级急救医疗服务的城市。
北京将起用的“医疗直升机”就是medical helicopter，在这种专用急救直升机上配有electrocardiograph（心电图仪）、ventilator（呼吸器）、defibrillator（除纤颤器）、micropump（微泵）等医疗设备。由于北京经常发生traffic jams（交通堵塞），有时候情况紧急但ambulance（救护车）又无法及时抵达，就需要医疗直升机来帮忙。
专业人士指出，除了医疗直升机，在各大医院的屋顶修建parking apron（停机坪）也很有必要，因为医院附近的空地通常过于拥挤，无法着陆。考虑到北京寸土寸金，将rooftop（屋顶）改建为停机坪是最佳选择。
