CCTV News catches up with Zhou Yang after she claimed her third gold at the Olympics.
"I feel very happy and excited. But I am somewhat calmer compared with four years ago." Zhou Yang said.
"Explain the difference when you won two gold medals in Vancouver four years ago, what was that feeling like, and how different was it going into these Olympic Games?" Tracey Holemes said.
"When I got the gold last time, it felt like a dream during the whole Olympics. But what I’m thinking now is although I am very excited about my performance, I need to make the mental shift to set the pace for the games still to come." Zhou Yang said.
"With your training, you’ve taken so much training to become an Olympic champion. Is it different when you train now to when you train before Vancouver? Do you approach it differently?" Tracey Holemes said.
Chinese Zhou Yang defended her women's 1,500m short track speed skating gold medal at the Sochi Olympic Games. |
"I think we are challenging ourselves everyday. Four years ago, I thought I was on the upgrade everyday, and would smoothly grab the medal, although the final was a tough game. But in the four years following that, I felt I was experiencing many ups and downs. It was not easy for me to have come this far." Zhou Yang said.
"Many athelets experience that once you reach a certain high, there is almost a collapse, because you don’t know how to feel like that kind of sensation again. But now you’ve won again, do you feel like you’ve come like a full circle, feel like you’ve reached some pace inside your heart and mind?" Tracey Holemes said.
"Like I just mentioned, I’m calmer than four years ago. I don’t want to be too excited, I need to focus on the coming games. Everything goes back to the start from the point I walked down the podium. I should do my best in what I am supposed to do." Zhou Yang said.
