The US and Canada have issued further storm warnings. Severe weather has already halted travel in many areas across North America, and been linked to dozens of deaths.
The US National Weather Service said blizzard conditions were likely in Canada over the weekend. It also forecast a strong coastal winter storm in the northeast United States.
Officials also said more rain and snow were expected in the mid-Atlantic region of the US, with New England likely to be among the worst-hit areas. Stormy weather has swept along the US eastern coast, since Thursday. At least 25 people have died so far from storm-related accidents, and hundreds of thousands have been left without power.
The US is suffering one of the snowiest winters on record. As of early February, areas including Washington, New York and Boston had reported receiving up to three times more snow than normal at this time of the year.
