Britain and Iran have resumed direct diplomatic relations after the Iranian Embassy in London restored part of its consular operations.
According to a statement, Britain and Iran agreed that bilateral relations will be conducted directly through non-resident Charges d’ Affaires and officials. The statement marks the latest development in a thawing relationship between London and Tehran, who severed their direct diplomatic ties following the storming of the British embassy by Iranian protesters back in 2011. Despite the arrangements, British and Iranian embassies in their respective capitals, will remain closed until the two sides decide to upgrade to full diplomatic status.
