For native English speakers, learning good English writing and communication skills from an Asian teacher is unusual. Yet, for more than a decade now, The Write Connection (TWC) has been teaching English and writing to students from all over the world with great success.
TWC employs an unparalleled methodology in teaching English to children aged six to 16. TWC founder and CEO Katherine Barg, a professionally trained teacher, has taught English in Singapore and Australia to children, teenagers and undergraduates. Her experience led her to develop an effective writing pedagogy to learn English through developing writing skills.
“To learn to write, we create mentor texts to help our students learn to read like writers,” Barg says. “Our courses help students to better communicate their ideas in English by removing the fear of speaking or writing in perfect grammar first. We work on accuracy after ideas are expressed confidently.”
TWC’s main course offerings include Writing Enrichment for primary 1 to 6 students, Critical Reading and Writing for secondary 1 to 4 levels and English tuition programmes. The centre also offers online live lessons through TWC@Home. TWC will also expand to Hong Kong and Malaysia in the foreseeable future.
“Educating a child is sacred, so we take our role very seriously,” Barg says. “We hire teachers using stringent selection criteria, and they go through a three-month teaching apprenticeship programme to ensure students get the brightest and most passionate mentors. We abide strictly by our core values of H.E.A.R.T or honesty, exceptional quality, adaptability, respectable reputation and teamwork.”
TWC does everything from the heart as it continues to support students regardless of ability or background.
