A Harrison police officer retired Thursday three weeks after he was arrested for allegedly stealing a skylight from a business in Greenburgh.
Sokol Biberaj, 51, of Dobbs Ferry, was charged with petty larceny and is due in Greenburgh Town Court on Monday.
According to the misdemeanor complaint filed by Greenburgh police, on Aug. 5 Biberaj took a Velux deck-mounted laminated skylight worth $553 from the warehouse loading dock at New Castle Building Products on Old Tarrytown Road, put it in his pickup truck and drove off.
He was arrested two weeks later and within days filed his retirement papers with the state Comptroller's Office, effective Thursday.

Biberaj joined the Harrison Police Department in 2007 after seven years as a New York City cop.
Neither Biberaj nor his lawyer could be reached for comment. In a letter to Chief John Vasta on Aug. 25 confirming his retirement, Biberaj ended with a message to his “brothers and sisters” in the department.
"I will miss you the most,” he wrote. “Thank you for your camaraderie and all the wonderful memories throughout the years. Remain vigilant and be safe."
