Chinese President Xi Jinping says long term efforts are needed to promote sustained and healthy development in Beijing. It follows 7 days of severe smog in the Chinese capital.

President Xi called for strengthened efforts to control air pollution. He said the priority is to limit PM2.5 by reducing dependence on coal, strictly controlling vehicles, adjusting industry structures, and other measures.
The Chinese President also said the population size should be controlled and its distribution should be balanced in the capital. He said Beijing’s construction should be improved, especially its infrastructure construction.
President Xi also said Beijing should improve its city management system, including public facilities, transportation, environment, and emergency management.
Xi Jinping visited a trendy alley in downtown Beijing on Tuesday and walked along the banks of a nearby river. He also visited Beijing City Planning Exhibition Hall and a water plant.
