The approve of Ukraine’s new Prime Minister, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, has escalated tensions in the country’s Crimea region.
Security forces in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in southern Ukraine have been put on alert after armed groups seized local government and parliament buildings. Around 120 armed men stormed and seized two administrative buildings, witnesses saw Russian flag was raised over both buildings. The attack poses an immediate challenge to Ukraine's new authorities as they seek to set up an interim government, which is deeply divided in loyalties between Russia and the West. However Yatsenyuk told parliament the country’s future lies with the European union and friendly relations with Russia.
