Seafarer

The sea will wash in
but the rocks - jagged ribs
riding the cloth of foam
or a knob or pinnacles
with gannets -
are the stubborn man.
He invites the storm, he
lives by it? Instinct
with fears that are not fears
but prickles of ecstasy,
a secret liquor, a fire
that inflames his blood to
coldness so that the rocks
seem rather to leap
at the sea than the sea
to envelop them. They strain
forward to grasp ships
or even the sky itself that
bends down to be torn
upon them. To which he says,
It is I! I who am the rocks!
With out me nothing laughs.

圆丘、尖顶,
岩石如肋骨参差、粗糙;
驾驭无边的海浪,
迎着扑面而来的波涛,
伴着塘鹅,
是英雄不屈不挠。
挺身雷雨,
笑迎风暴,
充满并非恐惧的恐惧,
那是阵阵惊喜、狂躁;
是神秘的烈酒,
是熊熊的火焰把你的血液燃烧,
直到最终冷却,
岩石有了今天的相貌:
似乎他们纵身跃进大海,
而不是海水把他们围绕。
他们竭力把船只捉住,
甚至要把苍天抓牢;
任由他们撕碎,
苍天竟会躬身弯腰。
这就是我,这就是岩石!
没有我世上就没有欢笑。
