sit tight这个说法是来自扑克牌游戏,有的时候,一个参加游戏的人本可以继续玩,但是他放弃叫牌的机会而选择观望的态度,形容“不采取任何行动,耐心等待、坚持主张、静待事态的发展”。现在我们常用这个习惯用语告诫人们:“不要着急,请耐心等待”。因此,当美国人说"Sit tight, please."时,他/她要表达的意思就是:"Wait patiently, please."、"Hold your horses, please."。
