Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Belgian Prime Minister Elio Di Rupo in Brussels.
Xi Jinping called on the two countries to maintain a long-term friendship in the political sphere, and also promote cooperation in economy, science and technology, and people-to-people exchanges. Xi Jinping says he hopes Belgium will continue to act as the "heart of Europe", to help promote China-EU relations.
The two leaders then issued a joint declaration on deepening bilateral relations. On Monday evening, President Xi Jinping attended a state banquet hosted by Belgian King Philippe at the Royal Palace of Laeken.
Xi Jinping also met with Belgian parliament speaker Andre Flahaut. The Chinese president hailed Flahaut for his continuous efforts to promote bilateral ties, and said China is willing to strengthen exchanges between the legislative bodies, political parties and local governments of the two countries.
