in case of 以防万一
case 的意思是案例、情况，in case of 指以防万一，后面接名词或代名词。
We have to have an emergency exit sign over the door in case of fire.
我们必须放一个紧急出口标志在门上，以防万一发生火灾。
in case 也是以防万一的意思，后面接子句。
Take an umbrella with you in case it rains!
带把伞吧，以免下雨！
in the case of 则是「至于、在… 情况下」，注意不要搞错啰！
Jane is doing well at school. However, in the case of John, I think we need to consider finding a private tutor.
Jane 在学校表现很好，但至于 John，我认为需要考虑帮他找个家教。
in spite of 尽管
和 despite 一样，后面都必须接名词。
Ron went to school yesterday in spite of his illness.
= Ron went to school yesterday despite his illness.
尽管 Ron 生病了，他昨天还是有上学。
若要加上子句，可用 the fact that 连接
Gina failed the exam in spite of the fact that she had studied so hard.
= Gina failed the exam despite the fact that she had studied so hard.
尽管 Gina 非常认真念书，她还是没有通过这次考试。
in view of 由于、有鉴于
We have to reach a consensus on this issue in view of the upcoming election.
有鉴于选举将至，我们必须在这个议题上达成共识。
in light of 因为；考量到
You should think about their advice in light of your condition.
考量到你的现况，你应该考虑他们的建议。
in place of = in lieu of 取代
这两个片语都是取代的意思，后面接的是被取代的东西。
Plastics are now often used in place/lieu of wood or metal.
现在较常使用塑胶取代木头或金属。
in charge of 负责
charge 有花费、收费的意思，in charge of 则是负责某事、某机构。
Three months after she joined the company, she is already in charge of a new project.
在加入公司三个月后，她已经开始负责一个新的专案。
当然，你也可以用 “I am in charge!”，强调自己是游戏或运动中的「老大」！

term 有术语和任期的意思，in terms of 则指从特定角度看待某事，也可写成 in … terms

in hopes of 希望，期待
也可以写成 in the hope of。
This morning Oliver went to the manager’s office in hopes of being able to sign the contract.
今天早上 Oliver 拜访了经理，希望可以成功签下合约。
in memory of 纪念
memory 是记忆，in memory of 则是纪念，注意纪念的对象只能是已经「过去」的人事物，如过去的战争或是死者。
This monument was built in memory of those who died in the war.
这个纪念碑是为了纪念那些战死的人们而立。
