The dark blues were heavy favorites going into the 160th edition of the contest on the River Thames. And after just five minutes they took what proved to be a decisive lead following a collision.
Oxford powered clear and crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 36 seconds. They won by the biggest margin since 1973. After the race Cambridge protested about the collision, but their appeal was dismissed by the race umpire.
Oxford have now won 10 races since 2000. But Cambridge still have the overall lead, having won 81 to Oxford’s 78 with one dead heat.
