The prime prize in the 10th China International Press Photo contest goes to Beijing-based Canadian photographer Kevin Frayer, for a black-and-white shot of a woman sitting amid buildings demolished by Typhoon Haiyan.

Frayer’s photo story also wins the gold medal in the "War and Disaster News Stories" category.
Frayer’s photos have been selected from more than 30,000 pictures shot by over 3,000 photographers from 60 countries and regions.
The annual event was initiated by the China Photojournalists Society in 2005. After a decade of growth, the contest has become a popular event among photojournalists and professionals from China and abroad.
"The contest provides a platform for photojournalists all over the world to communicate and exchange ideas. It also helps China to express its views to the world," said Huang Wen from China Photojournalists Society.
An award ceremony will be held in October this year, accompanied by the debut exhibition of the winning photos.
