URUMQI - Three were sentenced to death on Monday and five others were jailed over a terror attack near Beijing's Tian'anmen Square in October 2013 by a court in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
The eight criminals were indicted last month on charges of organizing, leading and participating a terrorist group and endangering public security with dangerous method.
Usmen Hasan, his mother Kuwanhan Reyim, and his wife Gulkiz Gini, drove a jeep to crash into a crowd of people near the Jinshui Bridge across the moat of the Forbidden City on Oct 28 last year, leaving two dead and 40 injured.
The jeep finally crashed into a guardrail of Jinshui Bridge and the three people in the jeep died after they set gasoline inside the vehicle on fire.
A total of eight suspects were captured in connection with the terrorist attack.
