诺贝尔得主马尔克斯辞世 享年87岁
诺贝尔获得者、《百年孤独》作者加夫列尔·加西亚·马尔克斯去世,享年87岁。
Nobel Prize winner, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, author of "One Hundred Years of Solitude", has died at the age of 87. The man known to millions as "Gabo" was widely seen as the Spanish language’s most popular writer since Miguel de Cervantes in the 17th Century.
A hearse was seen leaving Garcia Marquez’s Mexico City home following his death on Thursday. Family, friends and supporters began arriving after the news came through to pay their respects. Garcia Marquez’s family had said the novelist’s health was "very fragile" after leaving hospital earlier this week. He was being treated for pneumonia and related problems.
His novels and short stories exposed tens of millions of readers to Latin America’s passion, superstition, violence and inequality. The epic 1967 novel "One Hundred Years of Solitude" sold more than 50 million copies in more than 25 languages.
