President Xi Jinping has made a visit to the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region - his first to the region since the 18th CPC National congress.
President Xi visited officers and soldiers from regional ethnic groups at a border frontier base in the Silk Road city of Kashi in western Xinjiang on Sunday. Xi expressed his gratitude to their service to the nation.
On Monday, he inspected the Kashi public security bureau and watched video chips over anti-terrorist drills. He said Kashi is at the front line of anti-terrorism and maintaining social stability. He stressed that local policeman should have effective means to deal with violent terrorists.
Meanwhile, he also met with local residents. He said the government’s policy should be made according to the will of the people.
During his visit to a local primary school, President Xi encouraged children from ethnic minorities to learn both Uyghur language and Chinese, and emphasized that learning Chinese will help promote national unity.
