城市里的生活是困扰的,谁不想远离城市的喧嚣?CCTV主持人季小军有幸来到北京郊外,呼吸这里的新鲜空气,到农田里闲忙农活。

Living in the city can be tough, and who hasn't longed for an escape from the urban hustle and bustle? CCTV anchor Ji Xiaojun happened to get an opportunity to do just that in the outskirts of Beijing, to breathe the fresh air, and get his hands dirty on a farm.

It all started with the quest for a caesar salad at their nearby restaurant Mrs Shanen’s in Shunyi in 2003, when romaine lettuce was rarely seen. The idea to grow vegetables and herbs for the restaurant was rooted in their minds and came to fruition shortly after.

CCTV anchor Ji Xiaojun happened to get an opportunity to to breathe the fresh air, and get his hands dirty on a farm.

Now, Mr. Shan’en and his wife Lejen Chen have more than 5 hectares of land in Shunyi, affectionately dubbed the Green Cow Farm. The plot can accommodate 22 members. They are required to work in the fields at least three times per year. And each week, a box of not less than ten varieties of fresh produce is delivered with an abundance to feed a family of four.

For many of the member families, it is not just about organic food; it’s a new way of life.

The Green Cow Farm is also open to the public during Green Cow’s annual harvest festival in October. As the harvest season peaks, why not get stuck into to the wholesome experience.

Not far away from the farm is Mrs. Shan’en’s, a link between farm and city. this Shunyi staple offers Beijing’s best bagels, as well as burgers, sandwiches, artisan pizza, cheeses, cookies, and salads. Mr and Mrs. Shan’en insist on using organic products from their farm. For them, it means a healthier life.
