李克强总理结束了访非的第一站埃塞俄比亚的访问。周二,李克强会见了埃塞俄比亚总统穆拉图。

Premier Li has concluded his visit to Ethiopia, the first stop of his four-country Africa tour. On Tuesday, Premier Li met with Ethiopian President Mulatu Teshome at the National Palace in the capital Addis Ababa. The two leaders exchanged views on deepening cooperation and upgrading bilateral ties to a new level.

Noting that Mulatu was once his country’s ambassador to China and had earlier studied in China, Premier Li said China greatly appreciates his contribution to promoting Beijing’s ties with Addis Ababa.

in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May 6, 2014. Li's wife Cheng Hong and Mulatu's wife Meaza also attended the meeting.

Premier Li called China’s cooperation with Ethiopia a model for other African nations. He vowed China’s commitment to expanding cooperation in railway and road construction, manufacturing, finance and industrial parks.

President Mulatu recalled a visit to Ethiopia by the late Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai 50 years ago. Both Chinese premiers chose Ethiopia as the first leg of their Africa tour. Mulatu said this shows that China attaches great importance to its relations with the country.

Mulatu spoke highly of China’s development and pledged to learn from China’s experience. He also welcomed more Chinese investment to help promote Ethiopia’s economic growth and reforms.

Later, Premier Li visited the alert Hospital in Addis Ababa, accompanied by President Mulatu.

Since 2010, more than 2,000 African patients with cataracts have been treated under China’s "Bright Journey" program, a free treatment program for Ethiopian patients.

Li Keqiang said that China will continue to send its best doctors to Ethiopia and other African countries to help more people.

On the same day, Premier Li attended a ceremony, marking the completion of the first phase of a highway linking Addis Ababa and Ethiopia’s second largest city of Adama.

The 78-kilometer-long highway was constructed by Chinese enterprises using Chinese technology and standards.

China-Ethiopia economic and technological cooperation started in 1971. By 2011, China had already completed up to 19 big projects in the country, including roads, power stations and water supply utilities.

Premier Li also visited an industrial zone where 19 Chinese enterprises have set up operations. He said creating more jobs for local workers will better serve people from both countries.

Statistics show by the end of 2013, China’s direct investment in Ethiopia had reached 720 million U.S. dollars. And investment from Chinese enterprises to Ethiopia topped 600 million dollars, contributing 80 percent of the total investment.
