China failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, but the country’s stamp is on most of Brazil’s fan apparel and souvenirs. The variety is huge and shows the increasing trade levels between Brazil and China.
Green and yellow, the colors of the Brazilian flag, have invaded Rio’s busiest shopping district. Vendors are hoping Brazil will succeed on home soil and have invested heavily on fan paraphernalia. Headgear, wigs and all sorts of accessories are available for Brazilians who want to show their support for their national team. The merchandise comes from China and is affordable.
For just US$2, fans can buy a flag a hat and a cup, all made in China, which, according to shop owners, is supplying more than 80 percent of all the World Cup products.
Charles Tang, chairman of the Brazil-China Chamber of Commerce, said that the World Cup products are just a small example of the thriving trade between the two countries.
Brazil mainly buys manufactured goods from China, such as this huge variety of World Cup merchandise. This year, sales are expected to flourish, especially if Brazil reaches the final.
