Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged more efforts in promoting social stability and security in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. He made the remarks at a meeting of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee.
President Xi said maintaining peace and stability in the region is extremely important, and the most urgent task now is cracking down on terrorism. He called for efforts to promote religious harmony and the unity of all ethnic groups.
Xi Jinping said the government should make employment in the region a top priority, ensuring that at least one person in a family is employed. He said the central government attaches great importance to improving living standards in the most impoverished areas in the region. And he emphasized the importance of promoting education, including bilingual education and implementing free high school education in south Xinjiang.
