China and Russia have begun their 10th round of strategic security consultations in Beijing.
Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi has met with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patruchev during the meeting. China and Russia have pledged to support each other’s efforts to safeguard sovereignty, security and development interests, and strengthen strategic coordination on major international and regional issues. The two countries saw their ties take a major step forward last month in Shanghai, where fifty agreements were signed during the CICA summit. Patruchev began his three-day visit to Beijing on Wednesday. On Thursday Patruchev met with Chinese security chief Meng Jianzhu, the first meeting of a cooperative mechanism on security and law enforcement between the two countries.
