Petro Poroshenko has formally been sworn in as Ukraine's president. The ceremony was held in the country’s parliamentary building. Poroshenko will stay in power for a five-year term.
During the ceremony, Poroshenko delivered his inauguration speech, in which he said the country needs peace, security and unity. He called for the people to lay down arms, and carry out peaceful dialogue.
He also made a strong statement about Crimea, saying that the region remains a part of Ukraine.
Poroshenko faces huge challenges posed by the violent insurgency in Ukraine’s east and the country’s stumbling economy.
