Over 20,000 displaced as volcano erupts in Indonesia
Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung continues to spew volcanic material and send locals running for safety. So far, more than 20,000 people have been displaced by eruptions.
Indonesian authorities raised their volcano warning to the highest level on Tuesday and established a five kilometer restricted zone around the mount. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency said on Monday that 60 big eruptions had occurred since Saturday, and the government needed to prepare for the worst-case-scenario.
Mount Sinabung rises 2,604 meters above sea level. It first rumbled back to life last September after being dormant for over 400 years.
