Announcing the move, the director of the marriage registration department at Beijing Civil Affairs Bureau, Han Mingxi, said the new rules emphasized the importance and authority of registration, aiming to remind new couples to respect and cherish their marriage.

Those who wear clothing that’s too casual and informal will be advised to get changed, said Han, as informal dress shows no respect for marriage.

New couples will be able to invite their family and friends to witness their registration in a wedding ceremony decorated hall, with some wedding rituals such as the expression of gratitude to parents and the exchange of love tokens.
