Indonesians are heading to polling stations to elect their next President. The voting began first in the eastern part of Indonesia at 08: 00 a.m. local time, two hours earlier ahead of the rest of the country. about 190 million Indonesians have registered to vote.
Two candidates, former General Prabowo Subianto and Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo, are running neck-and-neck in opinion polls. The official result will be announced on July 21st and the 22nd. The new president will be inaugurated on October 20th. The race is the country’s third direct presidential election in the country with a population of around 240 million people.
"This is one of the most important elections in Indonesia’s reformation history, as a young generation we have high expectations for the new leader, hoping he will bring the country forward and change the country tremendously," voter Bernard Wanandi said.
