The People’s Bank of China says the economic talks will focus on bilateral cooperation in the reform and opening up of China’s financial sectors, and the related cross-border supervision. The two sides hosted a joint breakfast meeting for the business community in Beijing as part of this year’s Dialogue.

Afterwards was an official meeting chaired by Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang and US Secretary of Treasury Jacob Lew. Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi says the new model of relationship requires mutual respect, while US Secretary of State John Kerry repeated the US call for effectively managing differences.

"Building a new model of relationship between China and the United States requires us to respect each other, treat each other with sincerity, correctly view each other’s strategic intentions, and avoid strategic misjudgement." Yang Jiechi, Chinese State Councilor said, "Chinese people are working hard to realize our two 100-year goals. We will firmly stick to a peaceful development path. We hope the US can view China’s development with a sincere and open mind and a rational and objective perspective."

"I think it really is a good idea not to be perturbed by differences; there will be some." John Kerry, US Secretary of State, "But as we said yesterday, the key to this relationship, the key of building the future for both of us, is to be able to manage those differences effectively while we find a way to cooperate on the most significant challenges."
