The European union   member states' home affairs ministers have approved additional financial assistance from the 2015 EU budget in response to the migration crisis.

The decision was made during a regular meeting in Luxembourg. The Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU accepted a draft amending budget that strengthened the EU support by 451 million U.S. dollars in commitments, and 64 million in payments.

The additional money would include financial support to third countries hosting refugees from Syria and for emergency situations. The ministers' decision for amending the budget still needs the approval of the European Parliament.
