Hurricane Patricia, which previously had been the strongest hurricane on record, rapidly lost its power after it struck Mexico's southwest Pacific coast Friday evening. It was downgraded to a tropical depression Saturday morning as it headed through central Mexico.
Patricia crashed into western Mexico with rain and winds up to 165 mph, hammering coastal areas. But the initial damage has been less than expected with no deaths reported.
Thousands of residents and tourists fled to improvised shelters as the storm approached. However, officals still urge caution, warning of the danger of flash-floods and mudslides.
