While the U.S. is suffering from snow and ice, Russia has welcomed an unexpectedly warm winter. According to the Russian weather service, Moscow's highest temperature on December 22 reached 7 Celsius, breaking the 80-year-old weather records.
The main Christmas attraction in Moscow, a 23-meter high, 100-meter long slide made from ice, melted just four days after it was opened. Most ice rinks in the country's capital have also melted. Before Tuesday's high of 7 Celsius, the highest temperature in Moscow for December 22 was recorded in 1936 at 4.4 Celsius.
The record-breaking temperatures are expected to continue throughout the week.
