BEIJING, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has called on secretary-generals and general office directors of government agencies to better serve the operation of governmental organs.

Li made the remarks while meeting with participants of a national meeting on the work of government secretary-generals and general office directors on Monday, according to a circular issued on Thursday.
The Premier called on such government staff to play their due role as the "first advisor and aide" of government work, pay close attention to the new situations and new changes in the country's reform and development, strengthen research and investigation to support the government agencies' scientific policy-making and governance.
Also, he said workers at government agencies' general offices should better serve the government operation to ensure the agencies' practical and efficient work and better supervise the agencies so that policies can be properly implemented to benefit the country and the people.
Li urged the workers to embrace new concepts and new technology to improve government work and get rid of all bureaucratic red tapes to better serve the public at grassroots level.
He noted that the reform and development task for next year will be arduous, requiring government staff to be confident, face up to the difficulties and comprehensively practice the concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development.
Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli also attended the meeting.
