Yuanmingyuan was once a resort for the imperial families of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It was pillaged and burned by British and French troops during the Second Opium War. As one of three gardens in Yuanmingyuan, Changchun Garden has several important relics.
圆明园曾是清王朝(1644 - 1911年)皇族的一个度假胜地。在第二次鸦片战争期间,它被英国和法国军队掠夺并烧毁。作为圆明三园之一,长春园有一些重要的文物。
Built in 1747, the gate of Changchun Garden used to be the entrance used for emperors; on the gate there is even a plaque inscribed by the Qianlong emperor. In front of the gate stand several bronze kylins, which was an animal in Chinese mythology.
长春园建于1747年,其宫门曾仅供皇帝出入;宫门上还有乾隆皇帝铭刻的牌匾。宫门前面伫立着几只铜麒麟,它是中国神话中的动物。
A spokesperson for Yuanmingyuan explained that only 20 percent of the underground remains have been excavated. ongoing archaeological work will continue to bring these relics back to life, making them available to curious tourists.
圆明园的发言人解释说,地下遗存仅发掘20%。正在进行的考古工作将继续让这些文物得以醒过来,呈献给好奇的游客。
Oct. 18 is the 156th anniversary of the destruction of Yuanmingyuan. The park announced that entrance will be free to tourists every year on Oct. 18, so that future generations can remember the importance of history.
