Former Russian oil tycoon, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, has been reunited with his family in Berlin. The re-union on Saturday came a day after he was released from a decade-long imprisonment.
The 50-year-old Khodorkovsky was released from a remote prison in northwestern Russia on Friday morning. He was then brought to a St. Petersburg airport and immediately flown to Berlin on a private jet. Khodorkovsky’s family, including his son and elderly parents arrived at the German capital on Saturday.
once Russia’s richest man, Khodorkovsky was arrested in October 2003 on fraud and tax evasion charges. Kremlin critics say he angered Putin by funding opposition parties, questioning state decisions on oil pipeline policy and raising corruption allegations.
According to his son, Khodorkovsky is expected to address the media in Berlin on Sunday afternoon.
